Angela Lansbury is dead

I'm devastated to hear that iconic Irish-British actress Angela Lansbury has died, ninety-six years old. Such sad news.

She meant so much to me personally, since I grew up watching her charming mystery drama "Murder, She Wrote" (1984-1986) together with my darling grandma Sylvia. We still love the show and try to watch it together as soon as it's on.

Angela had such a long and broad career, loved by so many. Some movie roles of hers that I especially love are Nancy in the Ingrid Bergman masterpiece "Gaslight" (1944) and Salome in Agatha Christie's "Death On The Nile" (1978). But there are so many great roles.

I'm too sad to write any longer. Another legend is gone. Rest in peace, sweet Angela.

Hollywood - Netflix period drama about old Hollywood

It's been quite some time since I recommended a TV series on my blog. I usually post things like this on my Facebook and Twitter pages, but this show is too special, so here we go: Today, Netflix is premiering the brand new series "Hollywood" and it's just what I love: a behind-the-scenes drama of old Hollywood.

"Hollywood" is created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan and stars David Corenswet, Darren Criss, Laura Harrier, Joe Mantello, Dylan McDermott, Jake Picking, Jeremy Pope, Holland Taylor, Samara Weaving, Jim Parsons and Patti LuPone.

The show tackles subjects like racism, sexism and homophobia, which were even worse back then. Also included are characters based on real life Hollywood legends such as Rock Hudson, Hattie McDaniel, Vivien Leigh and Anna May Wong. So don't miss out on "Hollywood". Out now on Netflix.

L.A. Noire HD for Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and more

There are some video games that are so good you'd buy them twice. One of my all-time favourite games is Rockstar Game's "L.A. Noire", originally released back in 2011 where you get to play as a detective in a film noir inspired mystery game set in Los Angeles, 1947. The city itself looks amazing and is almost the main character of the game. I love just driving around, exploring the gigantic open world.

The remastered HD version will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on November 14th, along with "L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files" for HTC Vive, which features seven select cases rebuilt for VR.

Whatever you do, don't miss out on this masterpiece of a game. It's truly a must for all fans of old Hollywood and film noir. It's like living in an old movie. Pre-order your copy now from Amazon.

Feud: Bette Davis And Joan Crawford

Wow! I just saw the trailer to the FX Network's new TV series "Feud: Bette And Joan", about the famous feud between classic Hollywood movie icons Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. I'm a massive fan of both stars and classic movies in general so I need to see this.

But the actresses in the series are great as well. Jessica Lange plays Joan, Susan Sarandon plays Bette, Judy Davis – who was amazing as Judy Garland in "Life With Judy Garland: Me And My Shadows" – plays Hedda Hopper, Kathy Bates plays Joan Blondell and the fabulous Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Olivia de Havilland.

I hope this show will air on a channel I have or be released on Blu-ray.

Debbie Reynolds has passed away

2016 has been a tough year. Just one day after her daughter – "Star Wars" star Carrie Fisher – tragically passed away, Debbie Reynolds also passed away, eighty-four years old. According to several news sources, the movie legend was rushed to hospital while planning her daughter's funeral. She must have been heartbroken after losing her.

Debbie will always be remembered for her roles in movies such as "How The West Was Won", "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" and of course the 1954 musical "Singin' In The Rain" where she starred opposite Gene Kelly. Fan of classic movies should also check out a personal favourite of mine, the 2001 movie "These Old Broads", co-starring Joan Collins, Elizabeth Taylor and Shirley MacLaine.

Rest in peace, Debbie. You will be missed.

I've bought some new books at the book sale: "Beautiful Ruins" by Jess Walter, "Doctor Sleep" by Stephen King och "Melting The Snow On Hester Street" by Daisy Waugh. King's books are always thrilling and the other two books include things I love to read about: drama, glamour and classic Hollywood stars.

Marilyn Monroe in new Snickers ad

Do you remember the Snickers ad starring "Dynasty" divas Joan Collins and Stephanie Beacham? Now, another famous diva is starring in a new ad. She happens to be my biggest idol Marilyn Monroe. The ad almost gave me goose bumps. It's so cool that they can use CGI to bring dead legends back to life.

Ever since I was a little boy, I have looked up to Marilyn Monroe. Not just because on her talent and icon status, but because I saw myself in her. I'm not talking about her looks, obviously, since I'm not even half as beautiful as she was. I'm talking about relating to her on a personal level.

Most people think of Marilyn Monroe as just a glamorous sex symbol, the "dumb blonde" who had an affair with the president. Personally, I'm much more interested in the woman behind the glamour and beauty. The sensitive and sometimes fragile woman who fought to be taken seriously and who went through so much pain in her life. The woman who tried her best to survive in a world where sensitivity is seen as a weakness.

I don't know who the real Marilyn was. No one does, at least not completely. But I have my own interpretation of who she was, and that's the Marilyn I relate to. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes it feels like I have a special connection with Marilyn, like I know her. I guess all fans feel that way, but still...

Reading about Marilyn, watching her movies, listening to her music and reading her poems really helps me cope when I'm feeling blue. It makes me feel less alone, like someone out there really understands me, even if it's just an illusion.

Another classic movie star has left us. The glamorous Anita Ekberg passed away this morning in a hospital in Italy. She was eighty-three years old. Anita was born in Sweden on September 29 1931 and started out as a model. In 1956 she played Helene in "War And Peace", also starring Audrey Hepburn and Henry Fonda.

But Anita is best remembered for her role in Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" from 1960, in which she took a memorable bath in Fontana di Trevi.

Rest in peace, angel. You will be missed.

Video: Erasure - Dead Of Night

One of my favourite tracks on Erasure's new album "The Violet Flame" is the opening track "Dead Of Night". To celebrate Halloween, the track has received a new video, featuring clips from horror classics such as "Dracula", "Frankenstein" and "Nosferatu". A perfect match for a synthpop/classic movie lover like me!

Lauren Bacall has passed away

One of my favourite actresses, the classic movie star Lauren Bacall, has died. She suffered a fatal stroke yesterday and passed away in her New York home, eighty-nine years old.

Lauren got her big breakthrough in the 1944 movie "To Have And Have Not" and quickly became known for her husky voice and mysterious look. During filming, Lauren and he co-star, movie legend Humphrey Bogart, fell in love. They married the following year and the marriage lasted until Bogart's death in 1957.

Some of Lauren's best known movies include "Key Largo", "The Big Sleep", "Murder On The Orient Express" and "How To Marry A Millionaire". The latter also starred movie icons Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable.

The amazing movie star and UNICEF ambassador Audrey Hepburn would've turned eighty-five today. Sadly, she passes away in 1993. Check out Google's beautiful tribute to Audrey:

Shirley Temple dead at 85

Another classic movie legend has left us. Shirley Temple was born in 1928 and became a huge child actress in the thirties, starring in movies such as "The Little Princess", "Bright Eyes", "Curly Top" and "Heidi". Shirley got an Academy Award in 1935 and a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 1960. She passed away on Monday, eighty-five years old.

James Dean Blu-ray Collection

On October 28, Warner Bros. are releasing a Blu-ray box, including three classic movies starring the legendary James Dean. "East Of Eden" (1955), "Rebel Without A Cause" (1955) and "Giant" (1956) have been digitally restored and the discs include loads of extras.

The movies also star Hollywood legends such as Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Natalie Wood, Sal Mineo and Julie Harris. The special collector's edition includes unique memorabilia such as posters, memos and a booklet.

The world has lost another classic movie star. The amazing Esther Williams passed away on June 6, ninety-one years old. She started out as a competitive swimmer and later became a Hollywood movie star, often including swimming in the musical numbers.

Rest in peace, Esther Williams. You will be missed.

The Hattie McDaniel story

While waiting for the Oscars, please check out this interesting documentary about the lovely actress Hattie McDaniel and what happened to her long lost Oscar. She is best known for her role as Mammy in "Gone With The Wind" and was the first African-American to ever win an Academy Award.

Oz The Great And Powerful

Check out the brand new trailer for the 2013 adventure movie "Oz The Great And Powerful", directed by Sam Raimi himself. It takes place before the evens of "The Wizard Of Oz" and stars Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis and my favourite hunk James Franco.

The novel original "Oz" novel by L. Frank Baum was first published in 1900 and has been adapted for the big screen several times. But my favourite is the 1939 version, starring the divine Judy Garland. But I'm actually looking forward to seeing this prequel too!

Celeste Holm has passed away

I have some sad news for you today. Classic movie star Celeste Holm has passed away. She was ninety-five years old.

Celeste is best known for her roles in "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947) and my personal favourite "All About Eve" (1950) where she starred with Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and Marilyn Monroe.

In the eighties, Celeste also guest starred on glamorous prime time soap "Falcon Crest" as Anna Rossini.

Rest in peace, Celeste. You are missed.

Universal Monsters Blu-ray Collection

Another amazing Blu-ray set is coming this October, including eight Universal monster movies, digitally restored in high definition, including loads of extras.

I love these horror classics and will definately buy this collection. Some extras include the 3D-version of "Creature From The Black Lagoon" and the Spanish version of "Dracula", the version that many fans consider being the best one.
